Could you be a Parish Councillor?

Local Council Elections will take place on Thursday 2nd May 2019.

Parish Councils represent the most local level of government. These councils often cover small rural areas, but some can cover large towns and be divided into several wards. Peckleton Parish Council has 6 councillors and is divided into 3 wards – Peckleton, Kirkby Mallory and Stapleton – with 2 councillors per ward. There is currently a vacancy in the Kirkby Mallory ward.

In England, parish and town councils are responsible for a range of local services and facilities, including:

  • Community centres
  • Street Lighting
  • Recreation facilities
  • War memorials
  • Grounds maintenance

Parish Council meetings take place in the third week of the month, rotating around the 3 villages.
